'The Hai Singers' is the choir of Hai Sing Catholic School. It is made up of about 75 members, ranging from 12 to 16 year-old students currently receiving their 4- or 5-year education. The criteria to be a Hai Singer is to pass the audition conducted at the beginning of every academic year.
Over the years we have been a SATB (soprano, alto, tenor & bass) choir, but our TB population is rather small. However, we have now established a more solid Tenor and Bass section. In this year's SYF 2005, we achieve Silver Award. This is the first time we participated as a SATB choir.
The choir has been active since 1999, the year which we took part in the SYF for the first time.
Members who can read music is about 15-20% of the population. Hence, more often than not, it takes more time and effort for the whole choir to master new songs.
The choir has been blessed with good student pianists and they have provided the much needed accompaniment for the choir.

Music-making instils self-discipline and develops aesthetic appreciation in our students. Singing together as a team develops responsible social behaviour and nurture inter-personal communication skills. Music-making also trains the mind and ear to be especially sensitive to musical elements and music as a whole. Singing involves cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills. Thus, it is not exaggerating to say that being in choir is really an educational experience for the student!
We continuously strive to provide enriching experiences for our members year in and out. Examples are taking part in the SYF, choral competitions, choral festivals, combined school choirs' singing, Christmas carolling, public performaces, studio recording sessions and singing-related workshops.
The support from the school principal and staff has also greatly encouraged the choir members in their journey towards higher achievement for the school and their own development.

the KIND me have come to drop you peeps words of encouragement as said so by jingming :D you guys are aiming for GOLD W HONOURS RIGHT! MUST OKAY. i wont take no for an answer HEHE. but seriously, i think you all have improved tremendously and i really think you guys can make it. i will be there to offer you all tissue when u all cry tears of joy ya :) nevertheless, never be too complacent and keep workin hard yea. at the concert on friday 13th, i think you all have proved your worth in almost every aspect. vocally and attitude wise. not the costume part. i thought nyjc looked like crysanthemums and you guys looked like the sea. oh well, just some personal opinions here :) but the bottom line is that you ALL will bring back a GOLD at least. i bet all of you are desperate for it too. even the guys' ties are gold in colour. issit some fengshui thing? anyw, WORK HARD. SUCCESS IS SWEET :D sing like there's nobody istening!

ok, back to serious stuff. =p
Today's date: 15th april, two days away from SYF!
5th april- i went back to choir look see look see. I left arnd 6pm bcos i have smth on after tht. However, i heard from adele tht smth bad happened to choir. MISS ONG WALKED OUT OF CHOIR AGAIN?! MISS KHOO CRIED?! Oh my god. I was super duper SHOCKED n WORRIED for u guys after hearing all this. You and me know what happened, so let's not rake up the past again.
7th april- haising choir combined rehearsal with NYJC. I reached sch arnd 12pm, to see u guys practising diligently. I was sitting behind u guys, listening to u guys sing! Oh my god, it's so nice la. After that, adele and i wanted to go to tamp library to STUDY de.. but ms evelyn lee asks if we want to go nyjc to see u guys rehearse? OH MY GOD! WE AGREED IMM! Not tht we lazy to study, but we DEVOTED to choir ma. When i heard o magnum, i was like -.- why did it turn out like this? It wasn't very nice after all. The high notes weren't sang nicely. The pitch went sharper and sharper and SHARPEST! Hahah. Serious la.
13th april- HAISINGERS concert with nyjc, n wild empire. The o magnum, that i heard was SO MUCH NICER ! It's so nice, and ai yah, dunno how to describe, just very nice. Serious. Like so holy. Gloria n shimae (i dunno how to spell) was nice too! But we seniors heard from below, feel tht maybe u guys shld be more energetic when singing the songs! =)
after all the practices that i've seen u guys practise, u guys really improve a lot. And u guys can improve! Only whether u guys want anot.
TIPS

SO GIVE IT UR BEST SHOT! U guys want a GOLD, the seniors hope tht u guys will get a gold, EVERYBODY wants a gold! But things are easier said than done. So WORK HARD, sing hard! Ur hard work will be paid off..

As i am writing this, i remembered the day when some of u guys broke down because of the clash between the motivational talk and choir practices. It was indeed a difficult decision to make for the sec 4s. and besides the tight schedule, u all cooperated with them and squeeze in time to have choir practices even though its as early as 7 am . 3 cheeerss =D
of cos not forgetting on that day when i went back and saw many of u feeling unwell and some even fainted (not because i was there hor ! Lols) its because of the hard work u have put in.
okok. Finishing soon! I have seen your commitments and enthusiasm in each practices, rehearsal and the concert. It was something commendable. Of cos even after syf,still keep on having that kind of attitude. Bring choir to a higher level =D
To end off , you all have come so far. this is the final stretch to the end of the race,SYF07practices may be tough, but you all have overcome it one by one. have faith in yourself when you are on the stage. look at the people beside you, they are the ones that went through this together with you. no matter what happen, continue putting in your best effort, because glory is waiting for us. if you feel that you cannot do this. think again, even impossible say im possible. Jiayou !
